In the Wrath of the Lich King, wars will be commonplace, whether it’s the war against the Scourge and the Lich King, or small, but tenacious wars between races and factions, and ultimately, quick and fierce wars between player and player. However, one war will be deemed very important to the point that it would overshadow most wars occurring in Northrend. In fact, it ranks high up there with the war against the Lich King himself. What I am talking about is the Nexus War, the epic battle between the powerful Blue Dragonflight Aspect, Malygos and the formidable magical prowess of the council of Kirin Tor aided by the Life-Binder herself, Alexstrasza. When the fate of the world is at stake, the entire world has to pay attention. This is exactly what will happen in this war.
The seeds of this war were planted when the Black Dragonflight Aspect, Deathwing, annihilated most of the Blue Dragonflight, led by the Blue Aspect, Malygos. Driven by the terrible grief and sadness of the death of his brood from the hands of a brother, Malygos retreated into the depths of his lair in Northrend. He was driven to insanity in his seclusion, and only with the intervention of Tyrygosa did his mind return. Upon going back to the surface, Malygos, who was also known as the Spell-Weaver, or the Steward of Magic, sensed that the world's magic has gone awry. He then blamed this on humans and other creatures who practiced magic. He then vowed to deprive all of humanity of magic. Thus, the Nexus War began.
To reach his goal, Malygos decided to redirect all of Azeroth's ley lines to his own kingdom, the Nexus. This would mean that all of Azeroth's power would be his. This action caused the weakening of the world's magic, sensed almost immediately by the mages of Dalaran, the council of Kirin Tor.
Realizing what Malygos was up to, the Kirin Tor immediately took decisive actions. First, they levitated Dalaran itself from the ground, leaving a vast crater behind. This was a move to guarantee Dalaran's safety against Malygos' attack. However, the Kirin Tor was far from safe, nor were all of the world's magic users. Some, fearing Malygos wrath, sided with him. These mage hunters killed and captured people who practiced magic and aided Malygos in aligning the ley lines.
But the Nexus War would not have been as big as it is if not for the support of the Red Dragonflight, led by the Red Aspect, Alexstrasza. Aiding the Kirin Tor, the Red Dragonflight vowed to stop Malygos at all costs. In the end, the war will be between allies of the two sides, Malygos and Alexstrasza. The winner is yet undecided, but you will definitely have a hand in this once you play the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.
